Accessibility
What we have checked on this site, and what we have not.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Nobody outside the Foundation has audited this site, so read what follows as our own measurements rather than a certificate.
What we measure, on every change
These are run against the pages as they are published, not against the source, and the numbers below are the ones we last recorded.
Contrast. Every piece of text on every page is measured against what is actually painted behind it. The lowest on the site is 5.5 to 1, where the standard asks 4.5 to 1 for ordinary text and 3 to 1 for large text.
Keyboard. The first thing the keyboard reaches is a Skip to content link, which jumps past the header and moves focus to the main content. Focus is drawn with a visible outline everywhere, never removed, and a control the keyboard moves to is scrolled clear of the header rather than underneath it. The error page is a single short message and carries no skip link, because there is nothing to skip past.
Structure. One main heading per page, heading levels in order with none skipped, and header, navigation, main and footer regions marked on every page except the error page, which is a single short message with a main region only.
Images. Every image carries alternative text. Images that are decoration carry empty alternative text, so screen readers pass over them instead of reading a filename.
Targets. Every link and button is at least 44 pixels tall, including the email addresses in the footer.
Layout. Pages are checked at seven screen sizes from 320 pixels wide upward. Nothing scrolls sideways, and no text sits closer than 16 pixels to the edge of the screen.
Without JavaScript. Every page reads in full with JavaScript switched off. Only the moving picture behind the home page headline needs it, and a still photograph takes its place.
Motion. If your system is set to reduce motion, the home page video does not play, and it is not even downloaded. Otherwise it plays silently behind the headline, and a button in the corner of it stops it. Once you stop it, it stays stopped, including when you scroll away and come back.
What we have not done
No independent audit, and no testing with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA or JAWS. Our checks are automated measurements, which catch some things a person using the site would notice and miss others.
We have not tested heavy browser zoom or custom text spacing settings.
Broadcasts have not started, so captioning for streamed games is not settled. What we do about captions is published before the first stop.
At events
No venue is confirmed yet. Access details for each stop, including entrances, seating and parking, are published with that stop once its venue is set.
If you need an accommodation at an event, write to us before the date and we will find out what the venue can do.
Tell us what is wrong
If any part of this site is hard to use, tell us what page you were on and what you were using to read it, and we will fix what we can.
